Piping Plovers Return to Georgian Bay-Lake Huron Ontario Canada
2008-06-25 16:27:52 - The rare and endangered Piiping Plovers have returned to Wasaga Beach on Georgian Bay-Lake Huron for the fourth year . This breeding pair signifies the success of the U.S. recovery program for this species.

This is the fourth year the Piping Plovers have returned to Wasaga Beach www.georgianbayecomuseum.com/nr-WasagaBeachPipingPlovers.html. Two breeding pairs have nested, with a total of seven chicks being born over the past week. This signals the success of the U.S. recovery program for this species. Volunteers at Wasaga are watching over this years hatchings, however cannot always protect them from unexpected storms. Last week they lost three chicks to the storm and 1 to a predator. Volunteer watchers try to educate the public on the Piping Plover and what they can do to help. Contact Wasaga Beach Provincial Park 705-429-2516.
