San Diego NSHMBA Presents Bernardo M. Ferdman, Ph.D and a discussion on ''Identity Orientations of Latinos in the United States; Implications for Leaders and Organizations''

2008-06-23 23:23:07 -

- The San Diego Chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs will be hosting a professional development evening at Alliant International University - Green Room, 10455 Pomerado Road San Diego, California 92131-1799 on Thursday June 26, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Guests are asked to register in advance at sandiego.nshmba.org/calendar.asp?id=4131&register=true

Dr. Ferdman's discussion will revolve around the fact that Latinos and Latinas in U.S. organizations are often engaged in conversations in which they feel misunderstood, stereotyped, or categorized in ways that do not reflect the full richness or complexity of their identities. This presentation will review a model of Latino identity orientations, particularly as these relate to racial constructs, from the perspective of the workplace, discussing the dilemmas Latinos face in organizational life as well as the challenges of non-Latinos in understanding and collaborating effectively with Latinos. The presentation offers Latino and non-Latino leaders with alternative strategies for communicating and developing as colleagues at work.

The San Diego Chapter is pleased to be a part of NSHMBA's 20th year anniversary celebration and is excited to bring another great professional networking event to its professional and student members as well as its corporate, university and other non-profit partners. Entrance is free of charge for all registered guests. To register and for more information and details on this event, please visit the San Diego Chapter website at sandiego.nshmba.org/home.asp or email president@sandiego.nshmba.org.
