Inclusion of the Solaris 10 OS and OpenSolaris is the first step of delivering a complete Web services solution stack based on Sun products to be incorporated into the Cloudware(TM) architecture, announced earlier this year.
"AppLogic technology and 3Tera's business model of working with leading data center operators has demonstrated the ability to make world class cloud computing infrastructure widely available, removing barriers for companies of all sizes to adopt leading edge infrastructure for their business," said Juan Carlos Soto, vice president of global market development and engineering, Sun Microsystems. "Adding Solaris support to AppLogic allows companies to tap into Sun's proven network computing expertise and rich development community to build and deploy highly scalable, high performance Web applications and services."
"Sun's proven infrastructure software powers many of the most sophisticated online delivery environments," said Peter Nickolov, president and CTO, 3Tera, Inc. "Our announcement today is the next step in delivering on our Cloudware architecture announced earlier this year, providing an open cloud computing environment where users can leverage the best software technology available. Clearly Solaris is an important part of that solution."
"AppLogic has allowed us to deliver new on-demand services and attract new customers while decreasing the complexity of our operations and support," said Todd Abrams, president and COO, Layered Technologies, one of 3Tera's major hosting partners and partner in the Sun Startup Essentials program. "Adding Solaris to our AppLogic powered services will empower both enterprises and Web 2.0 startups to rapidly deliver new services and explore the extreme scale and flexibility of cloud computing infrastructures quickly and easily."

About 3Tera's AppLogic Grid Operating System
The AppLogic grid operating system is the first commercial platform designed specifically to enable true utility computing. The system converts commodity servers into scalable grids on which users can visually deploy, operate and scale transactional Web applications without any modification of code. At the heart of the system is 3Tera's disposable infrastructure technology that packages applications with the definition of the infrastructure required to run them into self-contained and portable entities, able to run on any grid anywhere in the world. As a result, applications become completely separated from the hardware infrastructure traditionally needed to run them, allowing users to remotely manage their applications through a Web browser and provision resources as needed.
