- San Francisco Business Times: -0- When: Thursday, June 12, 2008, 6 p.m. Where: Fairmont Hotel San Francisco 950 Mason St., San Francisco Who: David Godfrey, 13-year-old award winner Onsite media contact: Felicia Brown, Business Times, (415) 518-4887

Details: San Jose resident David Godfrey wants to help the environment. Only 13 years old, David has been researching renewable energy and working on a number of science projects in the hope that his ideas will one day help improve the environment. David is also battling leukemia which makes him eligible for a wish from the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation(R). When given the opportunity to wish for anything, David decided to use his wish to help others. He wants to meet scientists who are involved in renewable energy research and share his ideas with them. Since there are so many specific alternative fuel industries, the Make-A-Wish Foundation decided to send David on an "Environmental Sojourn" over the course of the next year to meet with innovators and leaders in the field.

David's wish will kick-off at the Green Business Awards, hosted by the San Francisco Business Times. Over 25 businesses are finalists at the event, during which David will present an award to one of the winners. This event honors leaders and entrepreneurs in green business, clean tech, energy conservation, alternative energy and sustainable business practices. "We are thrilled that David's wish will begin at this prestigious event," said Patricia Wilson, Executive Director of the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation. "Thanks to the San Francisco Business Times, David will have the opportunity in one evening to meet many environmental leaders here in the Bay Area. David is excited to embark on his wish and has his project portfolio ready to share with these and other scientists who have been so responsive to our request to help fulfill this special wish."

Other opportunities are being arranged for David, including meetings at Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers in Menlo Park and LS9 in South San Francisco. David's wish is being celebrated as the Greater Bay Area chapter's 5,000th wish. More info on David's Environmental Sojourn will be available soon at www.makewish.org.
