www.peco.com - PECO, Philadelphia Michael Wood/Cathy Engel 215-841-5555 Michael.wood@peco_energy.com In keeping with its longstanding commitment to its hometown community, PECO has been recognized recently with awards from two well-respected local organizations for its leading corporate philanthropy and employee volunteerism.
PECO received top honors at the Philadelphia Business Journal's recent Corporate Philanthropy Summit and was named the region's largest philanthropic donor. PECO was honored for its support to local charitable groups that work to make our Greater Philadelphia Region a better place to live and work. The event followed more than six months of independent research to identify and analyze charitable activities in the region, looking at philanthropy, in-kind services, volunteerism, and community impact. In total, 67 local companies were cited for their varied contributions to the community.
PECO also received the Special Achievement Star Award for year-round volunteerism from Greater Philadelphia CARES at its recent 15th annual corporate leadership breakfast. More than 600 business and civic leaders attended the event to celebrate community service and efforts to improve the local community. Mary Ludford, PECO's vice president, Customer Operations, accepted on behalf of the company and saluted the efforts of all PECO employees who are great ambassadors for the company and make a difference with their volunteer efforts. The CARES award was based on participation in programs annually, such as volunteer walks, holiday fundraisers, United Way Days of Caring, and support for organizations like Philadelphia READS, the American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and numerous other groups across the region.
"We understand that being a business leader involves more than being a reliable provider of energy services. It also means being an active corporate citizen in the communities we serve. PECO has a strong tradition of community involvement," said Jeff Gordon, manager, corporate relations. "Our goal has been to commit our human and financial resources where they'll have a meaningful impact on the quality of life in our Philadelphia six-county service territory. We try to focus our efforts on support for educational, environmental, arts and culture, and neighborhood development initiatives and programs, while demonstrating our core value of diversity."
