KaZaK Composites Introduces Low-Cost Toughened Composite Antenna Enclosure

2008-06-02 17:15:23 -

- KaZaK Composites, Inc. Shannon Downey, 781-569-2542 sdowney@kazakcomposites.com KaZaK Composites, Inc., a premier provider of high value-added composite engineering and design, today announced that they have developed and manufactured a low-cost, toughened antenna enclosure that will reduce maintenance costs while greatly improving total system performance. The current enclosure, which is a 30-year-old design, has ongoing problems with corrosion and internal water damage to the electronics. In response to an initiative from the Navy to reduce cost and improve performance, KaZaK has come up with a new design of the enclosure that will greatly reduce these problems.

"KaZaK's enclosure will have virtually no corrosion and will not require painting due to the mold-in color of the composite surfaces," says John Schickling, EVP and COO of KaZaK Composites, Inc. "This new design is a form, fit and function replacement for the old enclosure. Modern materials and details in the redesign provide both improved performance and lower maintenance costs to the Navy and the Coast Guard."

Another issue with the existing enclosure is the position of the doors of the enclosure and the effort required whenever the system is opened. "Because of the positioning of the doors, some critical antennas are mounted on moving doors of the enclosure. Every time a door was opened it would require considerable effort to reposition the antennas upon closing," remarks Schickling. "KaZaK's redesign provides easier access with larger door openings and increased internal space. Additionally, critical component alignment is assured with built-in locking features."

KaZaK's solution is an updated and modernized composite enclosure that provides the improved operational capabilities desired by the Navy, incorporates EMI shielding in the enclosure walls and reduces the cost of routine maintenance.
