There was no doubt that local Tallahassee / Crawfordville real estate auctioneer's Dr. Joe Abal and Betty Evans could put money on the bid to support the Wakulla County, Florida Seminole Boosters Club. Tallahassee/Crawfordville (Wakulla County, Florida) Abal Auction Real Estate was recruited by Wakulla County Sheriff David Harvey to conduct a live auction to benefit the Houston Taff Scholarship Golf tournament. Mr. Taff, a local Wakulla coaching legend was honored and feted at the event for his legendary coaching career and support of FSU sport programs through his career. The event featured FSU Assistant Head Football Coach, Jimbo Fisher, and current members of the FSU football team from Wakulla County.
Abal auctioned handmade specialty items such as a golf bag, handbag and wallet. He also sold a goldplated Henry 'Ducks Unlimited' rifle. The highlighted items included FSU sports memorabilia which included a 40 year old Willie McCovey Louisville Slugger bat signed by Houston Taff's friends and players from FSU. Also included were FSU signed football helmets and dinner with legendary FSU Football Coach Bobby Bowden and his wife.
Abal concluded the auction by selling a handmade pair of alligator Hornback 'Lucchese' cowboy boots donated by Wehmiers of New Orleans which were offered by the Florida Alligator Trapper's Association.
The last item was an autographed 'Houston Taff' photo showing Mr. Taff, a lifelong avid Florida trapper and fisherman, posing with the largest 'gator' ever trapped in Wakulla County at Shell Island Fish Camp in St. Marks, Florida.
Dr. Abal kept the crowd in their seats with his knowledge and information on the auction items and made the connection between him and legendary FSU, NFL football star Fred Belitnikoff. He also made the connection between himself and FSU Coach Bobby Bowden and his days at West Virginia University.
The Wakulla Bank sponsored event benefited the Wakulla Seminole Booster Scholarship awarded to Nigel Bradham, an FSU football player from Wakulla County.
