www.caiso.com - California should have enough power to keep the lights on and air conditioners humming this summer although there will likely be days--especially in Southern California--when conservation and voluntary demand response programs will be called on to ease the strain on the power grid. The California Independent System Operator Corporation (California ISO) is issuing its annual Summer Assessment at a news conference on Monday morning.
The Summer Assessment is not a firm prediction of what will happen. Rather, it looks at a broad set of variables and offers some insight into the possible range of conditions California is likely to face this summer as the industry and consumers get ready for the peak summer demand period.
California ISO President and CEO Yakout Mansour will discuss the Summer Assessment on Monday. Photo opportunities of the California ISO Control Room and its demand response lab DR365 will also be available. -0- DATE: Monday, April 28, 2008 TIME (PDT): 10:00 a.m. PLACE: California ISO Office 151 Blue Ravine Road Folsom, California CALL-IN ACCESS: (800) 398-9402 (ISO News Call)
The California ISO is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation charged with managing the flow of electricity along California's open-market wholesale power grid. The mission of the California ISO is to safeguard the reliable delivery of electricity, and ensure equal access to 25,000 circuit miles of "electron highway." As the impartial operator of the wholesale power grid in the state, the California ISO conducts a small portion of the bulk power markets. These markets are used to allocate space on the transmission lines, maintain operating reserves and match supply with demand in real time.
