- SPEED Erik Arneson, 704-731-2189 Earneson@SpeedTV.com Alonzo Bodden, winner of Last Comic Standing 3, will host a new show on SPEED, entitled 101 Cars You Must Drive. The network has ordered 10 30-minute, high-definition episodes, scheduled to premiere in June.
Bodden, a former jet mechanic, knows his way around cars, and is ready to take SPEED viewers on a comedic look at some of the world's most famous and not-so-famous machines.
"It's funny how big our cars are and how slowly we drive them," said Bodden, who was born in New York and now lives in Los Angeles. "Compared to Europe or Japan, we love our cars big. Compared to Germany and Italy and other countries, we have better roads with lower speed limits. That's probably good because we're putting on make-up while on the cell phone and that's not good at 140 miles-per-hour."
Growing up, Alonzo had his sights set on two cars.
"My dream cars were a Corvette and a Porsche 911," Bodden said. "I have owned both and I hate to say it, but the 911 was by far the better car. It lived up to my expectations, especially the Turbo 911. It's motorcycle fast. It's crazy, but as far as you know, I never drive it over 65 miles-per-hour."
And which cars inspired Alonzo's humor?
"I laughed at anything from AMC," Bodden said. "The Pacer. The Eagle. The Eagle was a four-wheel drive sedan. They put a sedan body on a jeep chassis. AMC used to be pretty creative, to put it nicely."
