Jarapas or Andalucian rugs are making a comeback, responding to customer demand for hand made artisan goods leading online delicatessen Orce Serrano Hams has extended its range through to Spanish crafts.
Owners, Gayle Hartley and Iain Macdonald recently released their new range of Spanish crafts to include carved olive wood, hand woven esparto grass and 'Jarapas'. The Andalucian rugs were first introduced by the Moors over four centuries ago and are still made using wooden looms today. In keeping with Orce Serrano Hams vision for an eco friendly business the latest product addition is made from recycled cotton resulting in every rug being unique in colour and design.
Co owner Gayle Hartley describes the range, 'Andalucian rugs are perfect for any room in the home, a very traditional product which also meets our philosophy of supplying only the best authentic hand made products - we are predominantly a specialist online deli but customer demand dictates other ranges for the future. The aim as always to supply real Spain to Europe'
For the consumer the Jarapa represents a true piece of Andalucia, only available from the Murcia and Almeria regions. Designs vary in size, colour and thickness, due to the hand made nature of the jarapa they are extremely hard wearing representing very good value for money.
Orce Serrano Hams is a family run delicatessen based in the Granada region of Andalusia. Specialising in Spanish hams, charcuterie and artisan crafts the business retails only local, hand made specialities direct from southern Spain.
