2012-12-12 07:33:31 - Born an artist, Laxmikant Berde was one of India’s finest comedians whose performances in Marathi and Hindi movies have been very much appreciated.
Known for his perfect timing for comedy, Laxmikant Berde had a peculiar style of talking to himself, which made him popular among Marathi film lovers. He passed away aged fifty due to a kidney ailment, which was an inconsolable thought for many of his close friends in the industry. This week on his 8th death anniversary, Factrichi 100 Varsh recalls

A Mumbaikar by heart, his active participation in various stage plays during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations got him interested in acting. Berde started his acting career with the Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh. He shot into fame with his first major role in Purshottam Berde's play ‘Turtur’ (1984). His next two major roles in "De Dana Dan" and "Dhoom Dadaka” established the comedy style as his trademark. His performances in Dhum Dhadaka’, ‘Ashi Hi Banwa Banvi’, ‘Balache Baap Brahmachari’ ‘Hamaal De Dhamaal’ ‘and ‘Thartharat’ were exemplary in Marathi cinema. He swept the industry with his comic sense, which bagged him roles in Sooraj Barjatya's movies - ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’, which were superhits. His comedy pairing with Ashok Saraf was recognized as most successful; despite being colleagues they were great friends & that friendship lasted till Berde's death.
He also started his own production house named ‘Abhinav Arts’ before his death. Not known my many, he was also a guitar player. Laximkant Berde has played a significant role in the evolution of the comedy genre in Marathi Cinema.
