The Design Group to Lead Marketing and Public Relations for AMHC's Largest Outreach Program
2012-12-04 19:17:59 - State's only full-service multicultural communications firm to develop marketing and public relations tools for use in Arkansas Minority Health Commission's "Southern Ain't Fried Sunday's" program.
Little Rock, AR (December 4, 2012) – The Design Group, Arkansas’s leader in multicultural communications, announced today it will spearhead marketing and public relations efforts for Arkansas Minority Health Commission’s Southern Ain’t Fried Sundays.
“We’ve developed great outreach programs for the Arkansas Minority Health Commission in the past, so being awarded this account is a testament of the confidence the
commission has in our abilities. We are certainly humbled, knowing our work will continue to benefit the great state of Arkansas,” Myron Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of The Design Group, said.
The Arkansas Minority Health Commission focuses on addressing existing disparities in minority communities, educating these communities on healthier lifestyles, promoting awareness of services and accessibility within our current health care system and making recommendations to relevant agencies, the Governor and to the state legislature.
Through The Design Group’s efforts, the Southern Ain’t Fried Sundays program will help Black and Hispanic Arkansans gain new insight into how to correct unhealthy eating habits, all while using well-known southern and traditional recipes. Traditionally, Blacks prepare large Sunday meals for their families; meals that contain high amounts of fat, sodium and sugar. For this reason, Blacks have higher rates of hypertension, heart disease and diabetes than their White counterparts. And though the cultures may be different, Hispanics often use many of the same high-fat preparation methods and suffer from the same chronic illnesses as Blacks.
Southern Ain’t Fried Sundays aims to introduce intervention strategies to Black and Hispanic families, increase awareness of the benefits of proper nutrition and meal preparation, and inspire those participating in the program to encourage family and friends to make healthier nutrition choices.
Idonia Trotter, Executive Director of the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, lauds the work of The Design Group.
“The Design Group was instrumental in the first wave of the success of Southern Ain’t Fried Sundays several years ago, when it consisted of only a cookbook. It has been one of our most successful programs and we are thrilled to work with this team to expand the program and its reach to more Arkansans.”
