Cougar Town is doing well for a newborn show, and they’re already looking forward to their second season on ABC
. But we hear whispers that that the show’s name is going to be changed.

Hollyscoop previously reported that the show’s creator Bill Lawrence wants to change the name to attract a larger audience. He mentioned also that the show has turned

more into an ensemble cast, and really doesn’t have anything to do with Cougars!

Say Goodbye to Cougar Town

Hollyscoop.COM talked with two of the show’s stars—Courteney Cox and Busy Phillips—at the the Women In Film event last night, and they told us their thoughts on the name change.

Courteney told us EXCLUSIVELY, “I don’t know if it’s going to happen or not. It’s not a rumor we have really been thinking about it. I don’t know if we will. Maybe we don’t need to.”

She also added, “The show speaks for itself. It’s a true family ensemble.”

Busy Phillips also told us it’s all up to Lawrence what happens to Cougar Town. “Mr. Bill Lawrence has a mind of his own and will do what he really wants,” she explained.

Phillips went on, “I think there is a certain demographic of people, a certain type of person who is maybe changing the channel because they don't like connotation of Cougar Town.”

“I think they are missing out on a really great fun show about friend and family,” she added, “Instead of about of an old lady who is trying to bang young guys which A) Courteney is not old and B) There are no young guys.”

Hey, keeping a show on TV these days is tough, so if a name change will make close-minded people tune in, then so be it!
