BROOMFIELD, CO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/09/09 -- OpenLogic, Inc., a provider of enterprise open source software solutions encompassing hundreds of open source :
www.openlogic.com/ packages, today announced a new Source Code Scanning and License Compliance :
www.openlogic.com/products/license-obligation-analysis.php module for OLEX Enterprise Edition.
The new module allows companies to identify any open source code used in their applications and ensure they are in compliance with the associated open source licenses. It includes OSS Deep Discovery -- a tool that scans a company's source code to identify open source code, components and licenses. OSS Deep Discovery will be free to customers that purchase the License Compliance module.
"Our customers came to us with feedback that existing scanning and license compliance tools were too expensive and had too many false positives and misidentifications," said Steve Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic. "Feedback has been positive from our large enterprise customers that have seen our new solution. We've also priced the solution to be highly cost-effective for both large and small companies."
OSS Deep Discovery
OSS Deep Discovery extends the capabilities of OpenLogic's OSS Discovery scanning tool, which has been available under an open source license since 2007. OSS Deep Discovery uses multiple new techniques to find open source components or even snippets of code that might be copied from open source projects. OSS Deep Discovery can even find open source code that has been deliberately changed to hide the origin.
Based on feedback from customers of other scanning solutions currently on the market, OSS Deep Discovery has been designed to be:
-- Accurate: OSS Deep Discovery uses multiple techniques to identify open
source code while avoiding the numerous false positives and
misidentifications that are common with existing scanning tools.
-- Lightweight: The OSS Deep Discovery client can be easily downloaded in
a matter of minutes allowing users to scan code anywhere in their network
without additional hardware, lengthy installs or transfer of code.
-- Cross-platform: OSS Deep Discovery runs on Linux, Unix, Mac, Windows
or any Java-enabled platform.
-- Secure: All scans are done behind the corporate firewall so that
customers' source code stays secure.
-- Scalable: OSS Deep Discovery compares your code to a highly scalable
cloud-based repository of fingerprints for existing open source projects.
New License Compliance Module in OLEX Enterprise Edition
OpenLogic has also added a comprehensive set of new license compliance capabilities into OLEX Enterprise Edition, OpenLogic's SaaS-based open source governance platform.
The new module includes:
-- License Obligation Analysis: OLEX Enterprise Edition automatically
analyzes the open source used in applications and provides customers with
the license obligations and conflicts based on their usage.
-- Easy-to-use reconciliation tools: OLEX Enterprise Edition lets
customers combine results from scans with open source that is declared by
their development teams.
-- Policy enforcement: OLEX Enterprise Edition flags open source that
violates corporate policies.
-- Extensive legal database: Identifies obligations and conflicts for
open source licenses.
-- Extensible: The License Compliance module allows customers to pick and
choose one or more scanners. It comes with OpenLogic's free scanners --
OSS Discovery or OSS Deep Discovery. It also provides an interface for
importing data from other scanners. Protecode's scanner is pre-integrated
and can be purchased as an additional option.
OpenLogic Scanning and License Compliance module will be available this month. OSS Deep Discovery will be available next month.
