One5 Foundation officially launched its new name Thursday evening with a celebration and concert at Boulevard Brewing Co. The Foundation’s new name and tagline, “One child, one world, five killers”, brings increased focus to its mission of reducing death from five of the greatest killers of children in the developing world: acute respiratory infections (pneumonia), diarrheal diseases (cholera, typhoid, dysentery), malaria, infectious and parasitic diseases (measles, whooping cough, worms), and HIV/AIDS.
The event’s purpose was to raise awareness of
the Foundation and its mission, as well as to develop advocates for the organization. “We’d love people to travel with us,” said Chairman Dan Tasset, “but tonight is about getting our word out. It’s not about raising money; it’s about bringing people together for our cause and having a great time while doing it.”
One5 Foundation embraces a comprehensive strategy to address the basic needs of communities in the developing world – housing, education, healthcare, nutrition and economic development. Basic needs must be met in order for societies to work themselves out of extreme poverty. The Foundation’s mission is to build hope on a foundation of health – one child at a time.
Held in the Muehlebach Suite at the brewery, attendees enjoyed live music from Matt Gary, a Kansas City native who now lives in Nashville, along with Southwind and The Emerald City Band from Dallas. Also in attendance was Bernard Porter of Porter-Gentry from Nashville, who brought a special donation for the Foundation to auction off – an Alabama #1 Hits guitar from the band Alabama. The guitar, which will be posted on eBay, includes a trip to Nashville to meet Teddy Gentry and have him personally sign the guitar – visit www.one5.org for more auction information.
About One5 Foundation
One5 Foundation, in partnership with other organizations, embraces a comprehensive strategy to address the basic needs of communities in the developing world – housing, education, healthcare, nutrition and economic development. Basic needs must be met in order for societies to work themselves out of extreme poverty. Healthcare is one of these basic needs. And that’s what we do. By our definition, healthcare includes immunizations, disease education and prevention, clean water and nutrition. Our tagline – “One child, one world, five killers” – refers to our goal of connecting children to the healthcare they need to avoid five of the greatest killers in the developing world: acute respiratory infections, diarrheal diseases, malaria, infectious and parasitic diseases and HIV/AIDS. Our purpose is to build hope on a foundation of health – one child at a time.
