CSC/DVS Signs Distribution Agreement for Intelsat’s Global Maritime Solution

2009-11-11 15:34:07 -

Intelsat, Ltd., the world’s leading provider of fixed satellite services, announced the signing of a multi-year distribution agreement with Corporate Satellite Communications (CSC/DVS) for Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service. CSC/DVS’s customers will benefit from the Intelsat Network Broadband Global Maritime service’s always-on broadband connection and automatic beam switching technology, offered for a flat monthly fee. These features differentiate Intelsat’s

global platform from most narrow band-based services or other Very Small Aperture Terminal solutions currently offered in the maritime industry.

Intelsat's Network Broadband Global Maritime service, part of Intelsat’s GlobalConnex (GXS) portfolio of services, utilizes C-band capacity provided via three ocean-region satellites: Intelsat 602 at 178ÂșE, Intelsat 707 at 307ÂșE and Intelsat 906 at 64ÂșE. Intelsat’s robust terrestrial network, which includes hubs at Fuchsstadt, Germany, and Riverside, California, completes its seamless global network.

“CSC/DVS recognizes that cost-effective bandwidth available for at-sea communication services and unique service offerings are attractive to the potential maritime market of over 12,000 vessels. These vessels are seeking onboard broadband services to address crew welfare and operational advancement tools,” said Charles Sackermann, Jr., CEO of CSC/DVS. “We recently signed a large contract with a Greece-based shipping company and are implementing Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service to all its vessels. The captain on one of its vessels stated, ‘My family is much happier now because they can talk freely with me every night no matter where I am out at sea. The crew members are also overjoyed with the service.’”

“Our customers serving the maritime industry are seeking a global and affordable broadband solution that is able to handle bandwidth-intensive advanced IP applications while at sea,” said Jay Yass, Intelsat’s Vice President, Network Services. “Our Network Broadband Global Maritime service offers customers the ability to roam the world with seamless connectivity and a robust quality of service capability that manages bandwidth efficiencies across multiple vessels.”
