Aaarti Singh and Mairaj Khan stole the limelight by winning gold medal in the skeet events of the National shot Gun Patiala- November 11-Aaarti Singh was in her stupednous form while Mairaj Khan stole the limelight by winning gold medal in the 53rd National Shot Gun Championship being played here at the New
Moti Bagh club Shooting ranges on Wednesday. The championship which began on
November 10 will continue till November 16.
On wednesady, in the men team championship, it was Chattisgarh team
led
by Mairaj Khan which bagged gold medal.
In the women skeet events, silver medal went in favour of Saniya
Sheikh while bronze medal was grabbed by Rashmee Rathore.
In men skeet events, it was close fight between Mairaj Khan the
silver medalist of the SAF games and also of the last national
championship and between C Guron now playing for Chattisgarh.
Both were tied at 140/150 when in the tie round, Mairaj made it to the
coveted gold medal.
Bronze medal in this category was bagged by Man Singh.
In the team championship for men, Chattisgarh remained winner while
Army team got second place and Punjab finished third.
On November 12, training for Trap events will be held while the
competitions for trap events will be held on November 13 and 14.
The prominent shooters Manavjit Sandhu, Rajyavardhan Rathore,
Mansher Singh, Biren Sodhi among others will vie for top honours.
Meanwhile the Olympian Shooter Raja Randhir Singh's daughter
Rajeshwari is also making her debut in Clay Pigeon events in Junior
section.
According to Mr Baljit Sethi, Secretary General of the National Rifle
Association of India this championship will be the basis for the
selection of top six shooters in each section for the preparations of
next year and they have set qualifying standards for the same.
In the national championship for shot gun, there has been record
number of more than 200 entries and it is being hled for the first
time in Patiala.
The credit for the hosting of ther events goes to Kunwar Raninder
Singh who made this event possible.
The shooting rtanges are located at about 12 kilometres from city
Patiala in Village Main.
Earlier last year this ranges played host to Master series and few
days back it hosted the GV Mavlankar Shooting events.
