Festival of Sport is granted Inspire Mark

2009-11-11 13:38:10 - The Coventry and Warwickshire Festival of Sport has been granted the Inspire Mark - the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme.

The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Festival of Sport, funded by NHS Coventry and organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for the 2012 Games, Coventry School Sports Partnership and Coventry Sports Foundation, is a three year scheme which aims to give every child in

year seven from schools across Coventry the opportunity to experience a variety of Olympic and Paralympic sports through four five-day events held during every academic year up until 2012.

Seb Coe, chair of London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, said: “The Coventry and Warwickshire Festival of Sport is encouraging schoolchildren from across the region to fulfil their potential.

“I am proud that with the help of partners such as the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for the 2012 Games, NHS Coventry, Coventry School Sports Partnership and Coventry Sports Foundation, we are delivering on our vision to use the power of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to boost participation in sport.”

The first event is being held this week, between Monday November 9 and Friday November 13, at the Alan Higgs Centre, in Allard Way, Coventry.

Tom Clift, manager for the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for the 2012 games, said:
“With this being our first London 2012 Inspire Mark accredited project, we are delighted to have the value of our Festival of Sport project recognised in this way.

“By educating young people in the Olympic values and the benefits of regular sport and physical activity we can help London 2012 to deliver on their participation promises and stand a good chance of creating a sporting legacy in the region that we can be proud of.”
