Rogosin Institute Patients Have Superior Health Outcomes

2009-11-09 15:20:05 -

Dialysis patients at The Rogosin Institute experience better health outcomes and have better access to kidney transplants than patients nationwide, a study of patient outcomes has shown. According to the 2009 national Dialysis Facility Report of all dialysis centers, Rogosin patients were shown to live longer, have fewer hospitalizations and receive more transplants than patients nationally.

At both one- and three-year

milestones, Rogosin patients at its Manhattan facility showed better outcomes than those on dialysis in centers nationally. The study showed that there were 52 percent fewer deaths of patients during their first year of dialysis. For the three-year period between 2005 and 2008, the Rogosin Institute dialysis patients had 20 percent fewer deaths than would be expected.

Rogosin dialysis patients had 18 percent fewer hospital admissions and twice as many Rogosin patients received kidney transplants compared to patients nationally. Forty-nine percent of Rogosin patients were on a transplant waiting list, compared to 21 percent of patients at centers nationally. The Rogosin Dialysis Centers in Queens and Brooklyn also had excellent results.

The dialysis center Facility Report utilizes data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid and was compiled by the University of Michigan Epidemiology and Cost Center for the year 2009. The report provides dialysis facilities, state surveyors and regions with valuable information on patient characteristics, treatment patterns, hospitalization, mortality and transplantation patterns in their facilities. “The data show what we have known to be the case: that Rogosin patients receive outstanding care that translates into better health outcomes,” said Barry Smith, MD, Director of The Rogosin Institute. “Rogosin’s state of the art dialysis, superior clinical care and aggressive transplantation models add up to the extremely high quality of care that our patients have come to expect.”

The Rogosin Institute is an independent not-for-profit treatment and research center affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital : cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww ..
