The obviation of known ways of looking at things offers new insights. Anca Munteanu Rimnic withdraws the actual function

of an object and translates it into new materiality. Based on pure aesthetics of the respective object, she focuses on the original object not only in it’s optical formality like a Ready Made, but transports this often also in an emotional context.

During the 70s in Rumania, Anca Munteanu Rimnic’s father designed and produced vases. The eight basic shapes of these convex-concave waisted objects are recognizable in the frame of the exhibition – but the vases are bereft their original function. Cast as full-body objects, the pure design takes over the objects function and finds itself disaffected as a new sculptural work.

A photograph of the Tokyo skyline, taken in 2005 while the German-Romanian artist's work as a DAAD scholarship holder, has been realized from hand-dyed wool by a weaver in Romania. A tabloid, seemingly abstract carpet in discreet Grey-Green-tones that talks about the desire for distance and economical differences.

Works like this carpet – a frame documented from it’s back and framed again – a bird trapped in a chunk of clay – contain the desire for something, which seems to be unreachable. The objects narrate stories which are individually legible.

Being committed to the pure form, Anca Munteanu Rimnic examines not only the object of the workaday life. She also takes a closer look at the object of the artworld and displays its pure form for observation.
