INXS STAR STEVENS' CONDITION WORSENS

2009-10-02 09:45:04 -

Former INXS rocker JON STEVENS is battling complications from his open heart surgery three weeks after the operation.
The singer, who fronted the Australian band for three years following the death of Michael Hutchence in 1997, was rushed to hospital in September (09) after doctors discovered a blockage in one of his main arteries during a routine check-up.
He underwent the procedure at a hospital in Sydney, Australia and was initially expected to make a full recovery.
However, the star has taken a turn for the worse, with his rep releasing a statement to explain how Stevens' condition has "deteriorated" in subsequent weeks.
The star's spokesperson Simon Lucas says, "The operation was a success, however Jon's condition has deteriorated and his recovery has been hampered due to some post-operative complications - primarily fluid around the heart and infection." But Lucas adds that with friends and family around him, Stevens is coping: "He's a bit physically and mentally battered around, but he's doing really well."
