BankUnited Names Douglas J. Pauls Chief Financial Officer

BankUnited has named Douglas J. Pauls senior executive vice president and chief financial officer. Pauls will oversee the company’s internal and external financial reporting, asset/liability management and investment portfolio. He will also be active in regulatory reporting and will serve as a member of the senior management team.

Pauls most recently served as chief financial officer of Commerce Bancorp, which was purchased by TD Bank Financial Group in March 2008.

During his 15-year tenure Commerce grew from $2 billion to $50 billion in assets. Pauls was involved in multiple acquisitions and public offerings.

“Doug played a critical role in helping to build Commerce Bank, which was widely regarded as one of the nation’s most successful bank growth stories,” Kanas continued. “His professional talents and experience uniquely qualify him to make an important contribution as we build the new BankUnited.”


Earlier in his career Pauls spent 10 years in public accounting with Ernst & Young, ultimately serving as senior manager in the Philadelphia office.

Pauls, a certified public accountant, is a member of the board of trustees of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn., and is a member of several professional organizations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Dickinson College.
