PURPLE RAIN TRIBUTE CONCERT ATTRACTS THOUSANDS

2009-08-07 17:33:10 -

Thousands of PRINCE fans proved their loyalty to the superstar at a Thursday night (06Aug09) gig - taking over a New York City park to mark the 25th anniversary of his iconic album PURPLE RAIN.
Organisers of the Celebrate Brooklyn! concert series took over Prospect Park to pay homage to the artist's sixth record, which won him three Grammy Awards and has sold more than 20 million copies since its debut in 1984.
Bands including disco group Escort covered Prince & The Revolution tracks, sending masses flocking to the stage despite the absence of their musical hero - who last performed a surprise show at the annual series in 2006.
The 25th anniversary of the record's release came on 25 June (09), but the landmark date was overshadowed by the sudden death of music legend Michael Jackson and actress Farrah Fawcett.
