Since the “LawnClub” with real natural grass on Celebrity Solstice exceeded everybody’s expectations a second cruise ship was finished and delivered in June 2009 – Celebrity Equinox. “Our client received an amazing feedback from more than 60,000 guests and visitors of the Lawn Club” stated Jorg to a

German landscape magazine, “and we are going to green 3 more cruise ships of Royal Caribbean/Celebrity Cruises in the next 3 years. Each green roof will have real and natural grass anchored in an engineered mineral soil layer. When all ships are finally cruising nearly 500,000 guests will visit the green roofs every year – more than any other green roof in the world.

Breuning, spent a lot of time on the 5-star cruise ships Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Equinox to demonstrate that proven and smart green technology –especially modern green roof technology – can be implemented on all projects whether they are on land or on sea and regardless the climate zone.
It isn’t only the grass what makes the Celebrity Solstice Class ships “green”. The entire technology of the ship is focused on environmental friendly, state-of-the-art solutions. These ships consume 20% less energy to comparing ships and reduce carbon foot print with solar energy, modern common rail diesel technology and only LED, florescent or halogen lightning.

Just a month ago Green Roof Service LLC - Peter Philippi and Jörg Breuning - were also awarded with the highest award in the industry, the Special Recognition Award at the Green Roof Awards of Excellence 2009 in Atlanta by the North American Green Roof Association (www.greenroofs.org).
