2009-07-05 13:02:02 -

HAMBURG (AP) - German officials say a leftist street party in Hamburg turned violent overnight and ended with 67 arrests and 28 police officers injured.
The street festival in the northern port city's St. Pauli district was peaceful until after dark when people started throwing bottles and rocks at police.
Authorities say rioters torched barricades, garbage cans and even a police car. Some 1,800 police responded with water cannons and billy clubs before the crowd was dispersed early Sunday.
The people arrested were charged with a variety of offenses including arson and damaging personal property.
