Houston extends MLS lead, beat Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (AP) - The Houston Dynamo extended its lead atop the Major League Soccer standings to four points with a 1-0 away win at the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday.
The sole goal came against the run of play, on Houston's first shot of the game in the 18th minute. Defender Mike Chalaba crossed the ball for Sierra Leone international striker Kei Kamara, who used his height to head home what proved the winner.
Kansas City was strong early and outshot Houston, but could not find the net.
Columbus 1, D.C.United 1
In Columbus, Ohio, Columbus extended its home unbeaten streak to 17 games by holding D.C.
The visitors took the lead in the 33rd minute through Argentine midfielder Christian Gomez and controlled play for much of the game, but Venezuelan forward Alejandro Moreno scored an equalizer in the 59th minute.
Columbus' run of results at home is now only one short of the league's record home unbeaten streak.
Colorado 1, Chicago 2
In Commerce City, Colorado, Chicago moved back to the top of the Eastern Conference with a valuable away win at Colorado.
Guatemalan international winger Marco Pappa and Colombian defender Wilman Conde scored as the Fire got an overdue win after three straight losses, and ended a run 10 games without a win in Colorado.
Chicago, which was coming off a three-week absence from the MLS to play in the North American SuperLiga, have an curious 5-3-1 record on the road but 1-0-5 at home.
Striker Jacob Peterson scored for Colorado, which lost successive games for the first time this season.
Los Angeles 1, New England 0
In Carson, California, recently acquired striker Alecko Eskandarian scored in the eighth minute to give Los Angeles victory over New England.
The struggling Galaxy won back-to-back games for the first time this season, having only won two all season prior to that.
The Revolution was playing its first MLS match since June 13, but their fifth game in 14 days after reaching the SuperLiga semifinals and losing in the U.S. Open Cup.
Dallas 2, New York 1
In Frisco, Texas, striker Jeff Cunningham scored twice in a 2-minute span of the first half as Dallas extended New York's road winless skid to 23 games.
Dallas moved four points clear of Western Conference cellar dweller San Jose.
Former Aston Villa forward Juan Pablo Angel scored for New York, whose overall winless streak reached 10. The Red Bulls are 0-6-17 since their last away win.
