Coast Guard rescuing French kayaker in Bering Sea

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard has dispatched a helicopter and plane to rescue a French kayaker in the Bering Sea who is trying to circumnavigate the world.
Jean Gabriel Chelala is reportedly in good condition, but he contacted Alaska State Troopers for assistance Saturday. The troopers called the Coast Guard, which sent aircraft to Chelala's location, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) north of St. Lawrence Island.
The 28-year-old is attempting to circumnavigate the world using a specially designed kayak. He departed from Emmonak on June 27.
