Romania respects Moldova's territorial integrity

2009-06-25 17:01:04 -

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) - Romania's president says his country respects Moldova's territorial integrity.
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin had accused Romania of trying to overthrow his government during violent protests in April. And Voronin said this week that Romania had joined NATO in 2004 without first signing a border treaty with Moldova, as he said is customary.
But Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday that Romania «recognizes and supports» Moldova's integrity, and Romania wants Moldova to join the European Union.
Moldova's Parliament was dissolved this month after failing to elect a president. The country will hold new elections July 29.
