Dodgers win in Weaver brothers showdown

ANAHEIM, California (AP) - Jeff Weaver outpitched his little brother Jered as the majors-leading Los Angeles Dodgers beat the crosstown L.A. Angels 6-4 in interleague play on Saturday.
In was the first time in seven years that brother had started against each other in the majors, but it did not quite live up to its occasions, with neither lasting six innings.
Jeff Weaver pitched five-plus innings and gave up two runs, while Jered Weaver had a rougher time. He went 5 1-3 innings and was tagged for six runs, including a home run by Russell Martin.
Tigers 9, Brewers 5
In Detroit, pitcher Alfredo Figaro won his major-league debut, guiding Detroit over Milwaukee.
Miguel Cabrera and Placido Polanco homered and Cabrera was one of four Tigers to finish with three hits among a team total of 17. Seven players finished with RBIs.
Detroit opened a three-game lead atop the American League Central division standings while Milwaukee ceded leadership of the National League Central to St. Louis.
Giants 2, Rangers 1, 11 innings
In San Francisco, Nate Schierholtz scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs in the 11th inning, as San Francisco scraped home over Texas.
Schierholtz, who entered in a double-switch in the top half, doubled off Texas pitcher Jason Jennings to start the inning. Two outs later, and following an intentional walk, Bengie Molina swung at a wild pitch that bounced in the dirt, came up and hit the catcher and bounced toward the Giants' dugout.
Red Sox 3, Braves 0
In Boston, pitcher Josh Beckett allowed just five singles for his first shutout since joining Boston, in the win over Atlanta.
Beckett rebounded from giving up a season-high 11 hits in his previous start for his first complete game of the year. He struck out seven and walked none.
Boston catcher Jason Varitek doubled twice and scored twice, helping spoil the homecoming of Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe, who recorded the loss for the Braves.
Marlins 2, Yankees 1
In Miami, Josh Johnson pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, steering Florida past New York.
Dan Uggla homered and the Marlins took advantage of a Yankees lineup without benched slugger Alex Rodriguez.
Johnson struck out five and walked two, outpitching former Marlins teammate A.J. Burnett. The Yankees didn't do much to help their starting pitcher.
A misfield in the sixth allowed Hanley Ramirez to score from first to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead they would never lose.
Rays 3, Mets 1
In New York, Carlos Pena hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh, lifting Tampa Bay over New York.
Rays pitcher James Shields allowed just three hits in seven innings and retired his final 14 batters. He outpitched Mets ace Johan Santana, who was back in fine form following the worst start of his career, not allowing a hit until the fifth.
Both starters were lifted after a 73-minute rain delay in the top of the eighth.
Cardinals 7, Royals 1
In Kansas City, Missouri, Khalil Greene hit a late three-run homer to help St. Louis beat near neighbor Kansas City.
Albert Pujols added a two-run shot in the sixth to put the Cardinals up 3-0 before Greene sealed victory in the ninth.
Chris Carpenter had another impressive display, outpitching Brian Bannister.
Orioles 6, Phillies 5
In Philadelphia, Brian Roberts hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth to give Baltimore a dramatic win over Philadelphia.
The Phillies took a 5-3 lead on flu-stricken Ryan Howard's three-run homer in the seventh, but Baltimore rallied against Ryan Madson, who has two blown saves and two losses this week in place of injured regular closer Brad Lidge.
White Sox 10, Reds 8
In Cincinnatti, Alexei Ramirez hit the last of four White Sox homers, and Chicago downed Cincinnatti.
Chicago overcame a five-run deficit by scoring its first eight runs off homers. Ramirez's three-run shot broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth.
Rockies 9, Pirates 7
In Denver, Todd Helton hit a two-run homer with one out in the ninth inning to help Colorado down Pittsburgh and win a fourth straight game.
Pinch-hitter Seth Smith singled with one out before Helton's drive into the Pirates' bullpen in right center field.
Astros 6, Twins 5
In Minneapolis, Houston scored four times in the seventh inning to overhaul Minnesota.
Lance Berkman and Michael Bourn homered for the Astros.
Mariners 7, Diamondbacks 3
In Seattle, Wladimir Balentien hit his first home run in nearly two months, helping Seattle defeat Arizona.
Mariners pitcher Jason Vargas retired 17 straight batters at one point.
Cubs 6, Indians 5, 13 innings
In Chicago, Andres Blanco hit a tying single and then scored the winning run on Kerry Wood's wild pitch in the 13th inning, lifting Chicago to consecutive remarkable wins over hapless Cleveland.
A solo homer gave the Indians a 5-4 lead in the top of the 13th. But after blowing the save Friday by giving up a ninth-inning homer, ex-Cub Wood gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning.
A steal and an error moved the runner to third. With the infield playing in, Blanco slapped a grounder to tie the game, and after a single to shallow left, Wood's wild pitch brought home the winning run.
Athletics 6, Padres 3
In San Diego, Adam Kennedy tied his career high with four hits, including a home run, and scored three runs to lead Oakland over San Diego.
Kennedy and Jack Cust hit back-to-back shots with two outs in the eighth.
Kennedy had given the A's a 4-3 lead earlier when he singled, moved up on Cust's fly out and scored on another single.
Nationals 5, Blue Jays 3, 12 innings
In Washington, Willie Harris hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning to help Washington stretch their winning streak to a season-high four games, edging Toronto.
Alberto Gonzalez led off the 12th with a single and Harris ripped a 3-2 pitch into the Nationals' right-field bullpen.
