Sweetwater Construction Corp. Announces Completion of New Senior Center and Condominium Community in Plainfield, N.J.

PLAINFIELD, N.J. (June 15, 2009) - Sweetwater Construction Corp., a recognized leader in New Jersey construction, management and general contracting, has announced that it recently completed work on The Monarch, a new condominium community that also includes the Plainfield Senior Citizen’s Center and Veterans Meeting Hall. The project is an integral part of the city’s urban redevelopment initiative.

The Monarch, which is slated for summer occupancy, features 63 upscale condominium homes as well as the new street-level senior center and the separate veterans center. The spacious community meeting places, with a combined total of 15,526 square feet, were dedicated last month in an event attended by more than 300 dignitaries, community leaders and local residents. They are valued at more than $2 million.

“Sweetwater is proud to have built a complex that is destined to play such an important role in the life of the city,” said Ronald Witt Sr., LEED AP, founder and president of Sweetwater, which is based in Cranbury, N.J. “The Monarch is a centerpiece of the city’s redevelopment, providing quality housing as well as a much-needed community focal point where seniors, veterans and other residents can come together.”

The ribbon-cutting program, which was hosted by Plainfield Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs and developer P&F Management Co., was held at the newly completed mixed-use community, located at 400 E. Front St., at the corner of Sandford Avenue, in Plainfield. The public spaces were built at no cost to the taxpayers: city leaders agreed to sell the land to the developer for $1 if the public spaces were included.

With experience in all types of construction, Sweetwater was ideally suited to a project that involved both residential and public meeting spaces. One of the region’s fastest-growing construction companies, Sweetwater established its reputation in corporate interiors -- from 5,000-square-foot tenant fit-outs to 200,000-square-foot, multi-phased relocations -- but has since expanded into various types of new construction including hotels and multi-family.

The Monarch features two-bedroom, two-bathroom condominiums offering 1,120 to 1,289 square feet of living space combining quality craftsmanship and spectacular design to create incredible new home value. The homes feature gourmet kitchens and are designed to meet Energy Star energy-saving standards. Pricing starts in the low $200,000s, which is lower than any other new development of its kind in the area.

The condominiums occupy the top three floors of the four-story building, while the public spaces occupy the ground level. The senior center has separate rooms for a library, ceramics painting and billiards, as well as an eating hall that can accommodate hundreds for banquets and other events.
