The MidAmerica Coin Expo on June 25- 29, 2009 will feature the two leading rare coin certification firms, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) at the Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center in Schaumburg, Ill. Iola, WI (June 15, 2009) -- A seller's accurate representation of the specific quality level of a numismatic item is a significant consumer confidence/consumer protection issue in the numismatic trade. Rare coin certification services assist collectors by providing an independent evaluation. Both services will accept coins for certification at the Expo, where they will grade them and place them in a sonically sealed holder with a grade certificate attached.
Subtle nuances of condition can cause very significant differences in market value. The certification firms enter into the picture by providing an unbiased third party opinion as to the actual condition (grade) of a coin, thus removing the self-interest of the seller from the transaction. The seller can then offer a coin as being "PCGS Gem 66" and buyers can be confident that the dealer is not misrepresenting the item by exaggerating its condition.
"Third party certification has established numismatics as a main stream avenue of wealth storage and has brought the benefit of liquidity and a wider marketplace to the numismatic trade, as new participants have been attracted by the greater assurance of quality and authenticity third party certification provides," says convention chairman Kevin Foley. "We are especially pleased to have these two pioneering firms in the rare coin certification business participating in our event this year."
