WorldChefs Visits Kingwood Township School

2009-06-10 20:22:00 - Students get an authentic chance to use their Spanish language skills.

Clinton, NJ – WorldChefs held its first class of the year at Kingwood Township School on January 22, 2009. The program was held at the invitation of the K-8 Spanish teacher, Jennifer Griffith, and supported through funding from the Kingwood Township Education Foundation (KTEF).

Chef Pablo Naughton and WorldPlay instructor Deborah Paulsen delivered the demonstration to Ms. Griffith’s 8th grade Spanish classes. Chef Naughton, a native of Costa Rica, prepared tropical fruit kebabs and chicken tacos while describing ingredients and their significance to the Latin American culture using a vocabulary list provided by Ms. Griffith. Afterwards, the students enjoyed samples of the completed dishes.

The WorldChefs program at Kingwood Township School was a great success and the children benefited from seeing and hearing Spanish in action. Jennifer Griffith added, “I would highly recommend a program like this in any school as a culmination to a Thematic Unit on Food. They were wonderful presenters – not to mention how awesome the food was! I cannot thank you and them enough for the absolutely fantastic job you all did!”

WorldChefs is a WorldPlay program designed to enhance language learning and cross-cultural understanding through the medium of food. Presentations are customized to complement language curriculums for students aged three through eighteen years. Programs are currently being offered in Spanish, English, Italian and Chinese. Other languages can be provided upon request.

WorldPlay is a program of Atkins International Associates, Inc. dedicated to promoting language learning and diversity understanding in young children. WorldPlay offers language immersion play classes in Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.
