Komen Race for the Cure®, a 5K walk and run benefiting the Los Angeles County Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. These milestones

include;



- Record breaking attendance of 13,000
- A 10% increase in registration
- A 10% increase in participation by men
- Over 25% increase in team registration and participation
- Celebrity co-hosts; Emily Procter (“CSI Miami”), Judy Reyes (“Scrubs”) and Poppy Montgomery (“Without a Trace”)
- Headline entertainment by 2006 American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks
- Kelli Brooks, a Komen advocate, survivor and team captain, raised a total of $18,286 on her own.

“The 2009 Race for the Cure® was not only a successful fundraising event for the Los Angeles Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, it was the collaboration of celebrities, performers, corporate sponsors, survivors and participants who all came together for one purpose – to end breast cancer,” explained Catherine Mullally, Executive Director, Los Angeles County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. “We are truly grateful to Emily Procter, Judy Reyes, Poppy Montgomery and Taylor Hicks for donating their time, their names and talent to this year’s race. I know that all the Los Angeles County residents who came out in droves to support our cause enjoyed them.”


Kelli Brooks, a Santa Monica resident, was for the second year running, the largest individual fundraiser at the Los Angeles County Race.

“As a breast cancer survivor, I understand the importance of the work Susan G. Komen for the Cure® does on a local level, said Brooks. “I share my story because I hope it will help other women. Seventy-five percent of the money I raised will stay in Los Angeles County, providing critical breast health services to women in need.”

Komen Race for the Cure® Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrating breast cancer survivorship and honoring those who have lost their battle with the disease. Up to 75% of the net proceeds from the Los Angeles County Race for the Cure® will provide breast cancer screening, education, diagnostic tests, and treatments specifically for Los Angeles County women, with an emphasis on the uninsured and medically underserved.
