Could McDonalds Really Kill You?

Stopping for a rest outside McDonalds almost cost an elderly couple their lives. One Naperville couple found McDonalds was almost deatly.
Sitting in a carpark in eastern Arizona, beneath a giant set of iconic golden arches outside a McDonald's restaurant, in their Chevy Trailblazer, a couple were crushed inside their vehicle.
The retirees, Russell and Carolyn Janke were knocked unconscious and received multiple injuries as the well known symbol toppled onto their car. They had stopped on the Navajo Nation reservation in Window Rock, on their way to suburban Chicago, from their winter home near Tuscon.
"It was a freak accident,” said Navajo acting police chief Steven Nelson: The winds were making 60 mph."The high winds just blew the sign right off the top of the pole, from the street right across from the restaurant.”
68 year old Carolyn Janke had to wait to be rescued as a crew cut her out of the vehicle.
Ann Janke, the couple's daughter-in-law, told the media that her mother-in-law has a fractured spinal column, as well as a fractured sternum. Mr Janke, a retired engineer, was hit on the head causing an injury that required more than 70 stitches. The injured couple were taken to the Fort Defiance Indian Health Service, before Carolyn was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Centre in Phoenix, a six hours drive from Window Rock. It was necessary for Carolyn to be placed in intensive care.
“I want to know how could that sign not be properly secured?” says a very furious daughter-in-law Ann Janke.
“I’ve been worried about the sign toppling for a while,” says Richard Laughing who has worked in the area for the past two years. He has seen it blow back and forth in the wind. “I told my wife it’s going to blow over one day".
