Parsons Awarded Contract for Expansion Phase of National Enrichment Facility

2009-02-03 20:31:03 -

Parsons has been awarded a two-year contract by Louisiana Energy Services (LES) to provide engineering, construction management, and construction services for the expansion phase of the National Enrichment Facility (NEF) in Eunice, New Mexico. The $3 billion facility is the first plant of its kind, using centrifuge technology to enrich uranium for fuel rods for power plants in the United States.

LES selected Parsons based on its approach, engineering experience, and ability to partner and develop the project in a fast-track manner while meeting Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing requirements.

"We are pleased to be working with LES on this important project, which will enhance our total capability in nuclear fuels handling and storage," said Mike Walsh, Parsons Group President. "The execution of this contract is a further indicator of the resurgence of nuclear energy as a major source of the nation's power."

When fully operational, the National Enrichment Facility will be able to provide 50% of all the enriched fuel for the civilian nuclear power plants in the United States, creating even greater energy independence.

Parsons, celebrating more than 60 years of setting industry standards, is a leader in many diversified markets such as nuclear and special materials, water, transportation, life sciences, environmental, construction, infrastructure, planning, commercial, industrial manufacturing, communications, healthcare, education and public buildings, critical facilities, and homeland security.
