2008-07-24 13:10:05 - Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik wooed his wife, Princess Mary, with his culinary skills.

Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik wooed his wife, Princess Mary, with his culinary skills. The couple met during the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the prince has revealed they got to know each other by going on short trips around Australia - where Mary is from - where he always cooked for his sweetheart. He told The Australian Women's Weekly magazine: "We went for long walks along the beach, prepared good food - or rather I did because Mary isn't that good at it - so we were able to really get to know each other." "It was all laughing and talking and gradually opening up for one another. Just being there with each other." The couple - who married in 2004 - soon realised their relationship was special. The prince said: "We had realised quite quickly that this was not simply a flash in the pan, an infatuation, along with the Olympic Games, that was going to wear off." Frederick regularly flew to Australia to see Mary, and she would sometimes visit him. However, he describes parting after the trips as "so dreadful an experience" but "a good test of our love". The couple have two children - two-year-old Christian and Isabella, 15 months - and are set to make a private visit to Australia next month to visit the princess' family.
