Britain's Prince Charles honoured Iraqi war heroes yesterday (23.07.08) when he presented them with operation medals. The 59-year-old royal gave servicemen from the Royal Dragoon Guards - a troop of which he is Colonel-in-chief - the military honour during a ceremony at his London residence Clarence House. Before the prestigious ceremony, the soldiers - who wore army fatigues - marched from Wellington Barracks past Buckingham Palace to Clarence House. Lieutenant Kes Srikanthan, 25, said: "This has been the first time that I've wanted the marching to go on a bit longer!" Srikanthan, who served in Iraq for six months before returning safely home in May, added: "This has been a great day, I'm not someone who gets easily moved but this was very special. It's also nice the prince takes the time out to speak to all of us and genuinely seems pleased to be taking part." The prince spent nearly an hour presenting the medals to around 130 soldiers, before chatting to the servicemen and some of their relatives at a small reception.
