2009-10-22 09:49:05 - President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Ferghana region on 16 October to familiarize with ongoing social and economic reforms in the region.

Rich of natural and human resources, developed industry and communications, social and economic infrastructure the Ferghana region is highly significant for overall development of the country.
For the past nine months of 2009 Ferghana region achieved 6.1% growth of GDP together with its performance of stable growth of industrial production, consumer goods production, service and other sectors. A considerable work

to improve the production volume in the region which today has more than 80 joint enterprises.
2 academic lyceums and 22 professional colleges were built and 203 schools were reconstructed in Ferghana region in 2009. Within the efforts of implementing the State Program “Year of Development and Improvement of countryside” a total of 77,200 new workplaces were created.
The program of reconstruction and development of social infrastructure of the cities of Ferghana and Kokand in 2008-2012 is being implemented in the region.
President Islam Karimov visited the new building of the Ferghana branch of the Tashkent Information Technologies University and met professors and students.
The President stressed that construction of such buildings was a practical result of high attention being paid by the Government to the development of young people and the educational system. “The 21st century is the century of information technologies. The future belongs to the people who possess powerful intellectual potential. I am glad our children are interested in modern information technologies and communications,” he also added.
During his stay in Ferghana the President also acquainted with the work of the farmers of the region. While meeting with farmers President Islam Karimov characterized them as a decisive force in ensuring the prosperity of the rural areas and the country as a whole.
He also stressed the importance of the state program “The Year of Development and Improvement of countryside”. According to this program, more than 254 km of rural roads were repaired, 20.8 km of gas pipes were renewed and 25 villages were provided with drinking water this year in Ferghana region.
During his tour to Ferghana region President Islam Karimov also visited the city of Kokand. In particular he got acquainted with the new farmer’s market equipped with modern tools of electronic transactions and all the necessary conditions for consumers and vendors. The new markets architectural solution has also embodied modern and national traditions.
President Islam Karimov paid particular attention to the issue of further betterment of the center of the Kokand city and proposed his recommendations in this regard.
