WASHINGTON, April 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Americans for Tax Reform announced today that Grover Norquist will be holding a press conference with State Senator Tom McClintock, chairman of the Taxpayer Protection Caucus in the senate. Norquist, McClintock and numerous Pledge-signing state legislators will announce that tax increases are now off the table in California.

California's constitution requires a two-thirds supermajority to increase taxes. The votes of the 46 Republicans who have signed the Pledge will be sufficient to stop any tax increase.
"This is a major breakthrough for California taxpayers," said Grover Norquist. "With 46 members of the legislature having made a commitment to taxpayers to 'oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes,' those continually lobbying for increased spending on the backs of taxpayers might as well go home. Tax increases are now off limits in California."
