www.prescient.com - Prescient Applied Intelligence Courtney Behrens, 610-719-1600 x332 cbehrens@prescient.com or Allison & Partners Karyn Barr, 202-223-9260 karyn@allisonpr.com Tops Markets LLC, a 76 store grocery chain headquartered in Buffalo, NY, has signed on to become the latest grocery retailer to find value in Prescient's Scan Based Trading (SBT) solution. SBT is a

commerce model where the supplier maintains ownership of its products until they scan at the point of sale. Tops was previously part of Ahold, until being sold to Morgan Stanley Private Equity in 2007. Prescient provides robust, collaborative supply chain solutions for both retailers and suppliers.

Tops decided to pursue SBT as a strategic business process for 2008, and beyond, to help achieve their corporate goals of improving cash position and differentiating service to the end customers in their market by applying new strategic procurement approaches. Tops selected Prescient's SBT solution because of its robust capabilities and ability to scale to meet the needs in all targeted categories including bakery, frozen, dairy, general merchandise and seasonal items.

"We are confident Prescient SBT will improve our competitive position in our markets through improved customer service, fewer stock-outs for high velocity items such as bread and milk, and improved collaboration with our suppliers. This fits perfectly with our strategic business goal of differentiating service and providing unparalleled value to make for a better customer experience in the store." commented Kevin Darrington, Tops Markets CFO.

Tops has engaged Prescient to assist with the management of its SBT program, including the strategic planning, on-boarding of suppliers, and support for Tops and its suppliers. Tops will be able to effectively and quickly scale their supplier community through Prescient's flexible on-boarding options, regardless of supplier size or technical capabilities, and provide a solid foundation for future expansion.

By employing Prescient's collaborative SBT solution, Tops will also have shared visibility with their suppliers of store/item level shrink, perpetual inventory and accurate daily POS data. Prescient SBT maintains the data of record, providing standardized systems and processes for SBT transactions, categories and vendors, decreasing pricing discrepancies and shortening the invoicing process.

"Prescient is a recognized pioneer in SBT. Our customers include nine of the top 10 grocery retailers; the nation's six largest bakeries; and four of the top six dairies in the country. I am pleased to add Tops Markets to our client roster, and know our experience will provide them with measurable results and rapid value." stated Elliot Zimmerman, Prescient SVP of Field Operations.
