The villages in India dwindle over the thin line of hope- while cities along the horizon allure the youth towards promising future. The country stands at a strange juxtaposition- adorning the making of neither an agricultural nation nor an industrial stalwart. Dangling in the middle of both the extremes- it witnesses the increasing displacement of the population from the rural to the urban sectors. Essence of life by Ishwar Chaturvedi- deals such experiences from close quarters. It narrates a true story of migration in India from village to city. The only dream that a man has is the desire to lead a better life.
This shift is with hurdled consequences. The Indian society which once thrived on strengths of joint
family system- has been reduced to nuclear cosmic units. The essence of family values is difficult to destroy.
How the author has grown and fulfilled his desires from modest beginnings are real examples of lives of common men.

His forefathers hailed from a small village of Uttar Pradesh. They had migrated in hunt for a better life- which forms the crust of Chaturvedi’s present book.
