2009-04-30 11:13:16 - Portland Public Schools Chief Operating Officer Cathy Mincberg has accepted a position with KC Distance Learning, one of the oldest on-line education companies in the US.

Portland, OR, April 30, 2009 -- Chief Operating Officer Cathy Mincberg has accepted the position of Vice President and Chief Academic Officer for KC Distance Learning, one of the oldest on-line education companies in the nation. Mincberg's last day with PPS will be May 15.

Mincberg joined PPS ( www.pps.k12.or.us ) in 2005. As COO, she has led the district's 21st Century Schools initiative, which has produced a detailed, comprehensive analysis of the physical condition of PPS' school buildings (which are nearly 20 years older, on average, than typical US schools). She has also strengthened centralized supports to schools and increased the productivity and efficiency of business operations.

Prior to joining PPS, Mincberg was the founder and president of the Center for

School District Effectiveness (CSDE) assisting reforming school systems with their business operations. In May 2004, she completed four years a Chief Business Officer for the Houston Independent School District (HISD). In addition, Mincberg served on the HISD Board of Education from 1982 to 1995, serving as president in 1987 and 1990.
