ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia (AP) - Police in Russia's North Caucasus area say six gunmen have been killed in two separate shootouts.
The Interior Ministry in Kabardino-Balkaria province said Sunday that police fatally shot four men who opened fire on officers who stopped their car late Saturday for a document check.
The province is tense as dozens of suspects in attacks on police and government buildings there in 2005 are on trial.
The other gunbattle erupted in the Dagestan province late Saturday. Provincial Interior Ministry spokesman mark Tolchinsky said police killed two gunmen in an exchange of fire in a wooded area.
No casualties were reported among police.
