2008-07-23 09:30:49 - Pigs are the wealth of the tropical island nation, Vanuatu, and play a significant role in the general elections.

Hilary Clinton pioneered the way for women in the higher echelons of politics. Now the battle for Vice-President could be fought in a female arena.

The hand rocks the cradle, rocks the nation, may once again be proven to be true, in 2008.

Political writer Douglas Drenkow, says it is vital for Obama to pick a woman, to lessen the impact,

should McCain as runner-up. May call this the Hillary Clinton legacy.

A world away, in the South Pacific, the 21st Century has not brought a great deal of change to the 'Happiest Country on Earth'. The tropical island paradise of Vanuatu, is a heavily dominated male society. It is rare for a woman to achieve high ranking chiefly, or political status.

In an unprecedented move, the National Council of Chiefs acknowledged the late Grace Melissa, from the island of Ambae, as a personage of high status, both in the cultural and political arenas.

Jenny Ligo, also from Ambae, is only the second woman to follow in her aunt's footsteps. Jenny, the former CEO for the Vanuatu National Council of Women, achieved a high chiefly status, when she was honored by the Chairman of the National Council of Chiefs, Chief Paul Tahi. This was after Jenny performed the nerve racking high-rank ceremony of clubbing to death eleven pigs, to mark her marriage to her husband, Joe Ligo, last year.

Recently Jenny performed another eleven-pig killing ceremony. The chiefs of North Ambae have endorsed Ms Ligo, as the people's first candidate, to contest the upcoming general elections for their region.

Similar to the Hilary legacy, Ms Ligo not only has the Council of Chiefs to back her, but has gained the support of the women of Ambae and other islands.

There is, however, a growing restlessness in the younger generation, who are demanding the right to an education. The right to become qualified leaders for their country.

Education is not free in Vanuatu. The horrendous consequences of the Government putting education low on its list of priorities are:

• Only 55.8% of Vanuatu Kids will make grade 6
• Of those only 18.2% will go to high school
• 26% will never go to school at all.

YouMe Support Foundation is one of the few charities raising funds for these educationally challenged youths. YouMe Support Foundation provides non-repayable high school education grants for children who will never see the inside of a high school classroom.

It is hoped that Jenny Ligo and other women like her, will be able to make a difference in the lives of these far flung communities.

You can assist these children to gain a desperately needed education, through an exciting Blue Moon Opportunity at winaresort.com
