PetersenDean Roofing and Solar Systems : , the nation’s largest, privately-owned roofing and solar company, was awarded 2009 Roofing Contractor of the Year for taking the roofing industry to a new level. By establishing green technology as a standard for quality roofing and making employee safety and education a top priority, PetersenDean has forged a steady path for success

– even in the current economic climate.

“We are proud to receive this honor and to be recognized for our commitment to the roofing and solar industry,” said Jim Petersen : , president and CEO of PetersenDean. “We’ve always believed in developing and installing innovative and renewable products. We believe it’s just good business to provide our customers the best and most progressive solutions available, which has contributed to PetersenDean’s solid reputation and continued growth over the past 25 years.”

The 2009 Roofing Contractor of the Year : award is given by Roofing Contractor : magazine, which recognized PetersenDean for its leadership role in driving the industry toward the highest quality installations. By selecting from only the best roofing products, including environmentally-friendly materials, such as solar power and ‘cool roof’ : technology, PetersenDean is able to tailor each roof to the specific needs of the customer. In fact, over the past three years, PetersenDean has designed and built more than 10 megawatts of solar energy on the West Coast alone, offsetting more than 10,000 tons of greenhouse gases – that’s the equivalent of taking more than 3,000 cars off the road. These projects include homes, businesses and city, state and federal projects.

The award also acknowledges PetersenDean’s commitment to employee safety and education. In 2002, PetersenDean embarked on one of the most aggressive safety campaigns in the industry, setting aside more than $1 million to provide equipment, training and procedures and has received multiple OSHA awards in both California and Arizona. The company’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program provides state-of-the-art training and testing requirements for new hires, including inspection routines, safe work incentives, accident investigation and hazard communication.

“It’s not size that determines the Contractor of the Year,” said Chris King, editor of Roofing Contractor magazine. “It’s a commitment to following industry best practices, satisfying customers and providing a rewarding and safe environment for employees.”

PetersenDean serves a full range of customers, including home builders, individual homeowners, small businesses, schools, and government facilities. Recently the company supported the redevelopment of Fort Ord, a military base in Monterey, Calif., where 3,000 homes where reconstructed to become more energy efficient. Other substantial projects include: NASA in Houston, the Orlando Magic’s new arena, San Francisco’s Pier 39, The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio Texas and Ponte Palmero, Cameron Park, Calif., all of which included energy-rated ‘cool roofs.’
