Paul Davis Restoration, Inc., a national franchise company and leading provider of water, fire and mold damage cleanup : and restoration services for residential and commercial properties, is sponsoring a $10,000 video contest in the state of Florida. The objective of “ The Fire Safety Project” : is to draw awareness to the importance of fire safety and to recognize the life-saving efforts of fire professionals throughout the state.

The video contest starts September 1, 2010 and runs through November 19, 2010. It also coincides with the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) annual “Fire Safety Week” October 4 – 8, 2010. According to the NFPA, more than 16,000 people were injured and more than 3,000 people

were killed in fires across the US in 2008. In addition, these fires accounted for more than $15 billion in property damage. Many of these injuries and deaths can be averted with awareness and education. “The Fire Safety Project” video contest is a means to help deliver this message.

Florida students currently enrolled in public or private educational institutions – K-12 and colleges and universities – are encouraged to enter. To be eligible to win, entrants must produce a “Public Service Announcement” (PSA) video on the importance of fire safety. The winner will be determined by popular vote on The Fire Safety Project YouTube Channel. The student with the winning video will receive $10,000 for their school. In addition, the fire department that serves that school will receive a $2,500 donation.

To enter, prospective contestants must fill out a registration form by going to www.thefiresafetyproject.com : .
The rules for the contest are posted on the website.

“A large part of Paul Davis’ business is cleaning up and restoring damage caused by fires,” said Malcolm Stone, Director of Marketing and Communications for Paul Davis. “Our franchises see first-hand the emotional toll of these catastrophic events and the heroic efforts of firefighters. The Fire Safety Project is designed to bring awareness and educate on the importance of fire safety and support the local fire departments where we work and live.”

The contest was developed by Gordon Berken, a Paul Davis office owner in Broward County, Florida. Berken hopes to challenge students across the state to use their creativity to produce a video focusing on the importance of fire safety.

According to Stone, the winning school and fire department will be announced in early December and representatives from Paul Davis will present the check donations in January 2011. For more information about the contest and how to enter, visit www.thefiresafetyproject.com : .
