Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency, Mohammad Asghar Afridi said 'Every year celebration of Pakistan's Independence Day at QEWC itself reveals the unique type of relation Pakistan is having with Qatar. This reflects the traditional and brotherly relations between Qatar and Pakistan.' Doha (August 20, 2008): Pakistani expatriates working at Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) celebrated 62nd Independence Day of Pakistan here on Thursday with traditional fanfare and enthusiasm at Ras Abu Fontas Power Stations.
Pakistan Ambassador to Qatar His Excellency, Mohammad Asghar Afridi was chief guest on the occasion. He hoisted the Pakistani national flag on the station premises to
begin the celebration.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of Pakistanis and other nationals employed with QEWC including senior functionaries of the company. Dr. Hashim Popalzai, the Community Welfare Attache at Pakistan Embassy, Mr. Fahad Al- Mohannadi, QEWC's General Manager, Mr. Hasan Al- Muftah, Production Manager, Mr. Mubarak Al- Nasr, Maintenance Manager, Mr. Rashid Al- Hajre, Senior Public Relations Administrator, Mr. Arif Iqbal, Head of Stores among others were present on the occasion.
The event was started with the verses of Holy Quran followed by the Welcome speech delivered by Mr. Nadir Shah, IT professional of the company. The programme was compered by Mr. Rao Aftab, a senior engineer of QEWC.
He further greeted his country's citizens on the occasion and thanked QEWC's management for organizing this historic event on a regular basis. He said that the inspirational leadership and visions of Quaid-e-Azam, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Mohammad Iqbal led to the creation of Pakistan.
He said that Pakistanis in Qatar have brought pride to their country with their hard works.
During his brief speech on the occasion, QEWC's General Manager, Mr. Fahad Al- Mohannadi congratulated the Pakistani community on their country's Independence Day and praised their sincerity, loyalty and dedication towards QEWC.
Mr. Abdul Haseeb presented the vote of thanks. Gifts were exchanged between Pakistan's Ambassador and QEWC's General Manager.
Lastly, His Excellency cut a cake to commemorate the occasion.
