To rapidly expand its nationwide network of Kinek Point alternative delivery locations, Kinek has welcomed Tom Bleier, a serial entrepreneur and experienced business development, marketing and sales executive, as its vice president of business development.
Kinek is building a nationwide network of Kinek Points: existing local businesses who contract to receive packages on behalf of online shoppers concerned about missed deliveries
or packages left unattended on doorsteps.
“Consumer behavior has changed dramatically in the last few years,” Bleier said. “Increased reliance on e-commerce has pushed that market to $186 billion annually. At the same time, most people’s busy schedules make it inconvenient for them to be available to greet a delivery person. Kinek’s innovative service provides a much-needed new way to conveniently receive packages. The service delivers tremendous value to consumers, to businesses who choose to become Kinek Points and to e-commerce retailers.”
Package recipients using Kinek’s service avoid the hassle of chasing after missed deliveries and gain peace of mind, knowing unattended packages will not suffer from doorstep theft or weather damage. Kinek Point partners, such as mail and postal centers, can increase their walk-in traffic and generate additional transactions and revenue from people picking up packages. E-commerce retailers know that removing obstacles such as the risk of doorstop theft can make potential customers more apt to purchase online. The Kinek service also reduces “last-mile” truck deliveries, a “green” benefit that helps the environment.
Tom Bleier ideally suited for Kinek VP of business development
“Tom has the ideal skills to drive the development of this exciting new market,” said Kerry McLellan, founder and CEO of Kinek. “In addition to his business smarts and strong management expertise, he has the entrepreneurial drive required to succeed in this position. With Tom on board, we anticipate Kinek Technologies will change the paradigm for package deliveries.”
Responsible for developing and executing Kinek’s go-to-market strategy, Tom Bleier brings to Kinek 20 years of leadership in both small start-ups and large companies. His past contributions in sales and marketing management roles have led to successful acquisitions and an IPO.
Before joining Kinek, Bleier was president of RocketScience Networks, which specialized in networking and security solutions for medium and large companies. He also was vice president and co-founder of Thirsty Pocket Labs, a company that offers a mobile marketplace for the iPhone.
As an entrepreneur in residence (EIR) at Blumberg Capital, he participated in due diligence and business development efforts on behalf of Blumberg’s portfolio companies. Bleier also has served as vice president of sales and marketing for Akaba Inc., an Internet security company; vice president of strategic business development, Next-Generation Networks division, for telecommunications giant Alcatel; vice president of sales and marketing for Internet Devices, a multi-function Internet security appliance company sold to Alcatel; and workgroup marketing manager for Bay Networks. He began his career as a branch sales manager for Businessland.
Bleier studied computer science at the University of Maryland. Outside of work, his interests include playing ice hockey, flying and riding motorcycles.
