FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hilton Head, South Carolina - Saturday 11th January 2014 - The Pacific Islands Society (PacSoc) has reached a defining moment having been officially registered as a domestic non-profit corporation in the state of South Carolina.

Founded just over a year ago, PacSoc has already successfully launched a series of public speaking events in the United Kingdom and inaugural young leader programs in national security, foreign policy and the arts. The organization has also attracted a growing base of close to 2,000 Facebook supporters.

PacSoc is now one of the largest non-profits in the world dedicated to promoting ethical leadership, economic development, environmental sustainability, and cultural relations in the Pacific Island Countries and beyond.

Through future speaking series, cultural events, and

annual campaigns, PacSoc will immediately expand its programming. In 2014, the organization will focus on bringing together the region’s most influential minds to discuss major political, economic, environmental, social, and cultural issues facing the Pacific Islands – all while respecting and celebrating the vibrant cultures that make the region so unique and valuable to the global community.

In the coming months, participants from the organization’s inaugural Pacific Security Scholars and Young Leaders on Disarmament programs will finalize their policy briefs on a variety of global security issues, including emerging technologies, food security, and counter-proliferation and disarmament. PacSoc will then deliver the program reports to various diplomatic missions in Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The reports will also be publicly disseminated through partners’ online and print publications.

Separately, PacSoc will be hosting the first exhibition of its NexGen Pacific Artists in London this summer. This follows the launch of a virtual gallery last fall which garnered significant media coverage for the participating young artists.

PacSoc is now one of the largest non-profits in the world dedicated to promoting ethical leadership, economic development, environmental sustainability, and cultural relations in the Pacific Island Countries and beyond.

Alongside the endorsement of senior diplomats serving on its Advisory Council, PacSoc has forged partnerships with prominent think tanks (i.e. Federation of American Scientists; Emerging Science and Technology Centre), academic institutions (i.e. Georgetown University; SOAS) and various diplomatic missions based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization will seek to strengthen these relationships and develop new ones in the years ahead.

PacSoc’s incorporation as a domestic non-profit opens greater funding opportunities and enables new partnerships that will further its work to "respect, inspire and empower Pacific Islanders."

PacSoc welcomes further support from interested individuals, companies, and organizations interested in promoting stronger people-people ties between the Pacific Island countries and their neighbors.
