The Pacific Islands Society at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the premier organization promoting Pacific affairs in higher education within the United Kingdom, recently launched a new website at: www.pacificislandssociety.org
LONDON, February 11 - The Pacific Islands Society at SOAS unveiled its redesigned website on February, 10, 2013. The redesigned website provides major feature upgrades and design enhancements, including a new events counter, a revised donation box, a major overhaul of site navigation, improved integration with the organization’s social media accounts, and enhanced visual design. The redesigned site also promises faster load times following the organization’s migration to Linux.
As the Pacific Islands Society at SOAS’s first release candidate website, the launch marks an important technical milestone for the nascent organization. Founded less than three months ago to provide students with the “networking, culture, and professional development opportunities that will prepare them to be next-generation leaders in the region,” the
redesigned website provides a mechanism for the organization to better engage its members as well as civil society groups from around the world.
The launch coincides with the kick-off of the inaugural Pacific ambassador speaking series at SOAS. Audio and video recordings from tonight’s lecture by the Acting New Zealand High Commissioner to the United Kingdom will now be able to uploaded to the redesigned website within twenty-four hours. This will ensure that those unable to physically attend tonight’s event will still be able to access and share the content.
The redesigned website also provides the Pacific Islands Society at SOAS with a new funding stream to support its future activities. New banner ads have been built into the release candidate website to enable the organization to host online advertising from partners who share their passion for Pacific affairs and demonstrate a strong record on human rights and corporate social responsibility. The organization expects to unveil these banners by the end of the month.
